Replacing Pool Pump

Hello
Our pool is roughly 20 years old now and the pool filter is still the original one. The pool is about 15k-16k gallons including a 2k gallon jacuzzi. The current filter is a Sta Rite S8M500. The cartridges need to be replaced.

Would it make sense to update the filter and put a new one in?
Could I get away with a smaller filter? It seems the one I have is quite large for the size of the pool?
It’s looks like a slightly smaller filter is the same price than replacing the cartridges.
Would appreciate some recommendations. Thanks

The larger the filter the better. It reduces the pressure drop through the filter and also extends the time between cleaning the cartridges.
If the body of the filter is still in good shape then no reason to replace it. Just purchase new cartridge.
