I would like to start by thanking ya’ll for such an amazing resource. I don’t think I would have attempted this if I had not stumbled up on these forums. We had an excellent pool guy but last year he hung up his hat and turned us over to a terrible pool company. We fired them in the fall and everything was good until late in winter when the pool got flooded and lots of mud and debris washed in. We run it all year normally but after the flood incident I had to turn the pump off for awhile and the water quickly turned to swamp. I started cleaning on it a little over a week ago and slowly working up to a slam. On Sunday I had most everything off the bottom and had been slowly adding chlorine. I went hard Sunday night and put 4 gallons of liquid chlorine in. The water has lost all green tint and it is blue but cloudy. I will post the past few test results I have. I am thinking it will clear eventually but I am pretty new to all of this. It appears my FC levels held over night with no detectable CYA. Any advice will be much appreciated. The after pic was from Monday. It is clearer now but still pretty cloudy.

4/8/24 evening

Welcome to TFP.

How many gallons in your pool?

What model filter and pump do you have?

You need to get stabilizer into the pool ASAP using the sock method. At least 30-40ppm.

Your FC is way too high without CYA and you risk damaging your liner.

Solid/granular CYA should be placed in a sock and the sock put in the skimmer basket or suspended in front of a pool return. If suspending near a return jet, ensure the sock cannot rest against the pool surface since the granules are acidic and could potentially discolor the surface. After adding CYA you should leave the pump running for 24 hours and not backwash/clean the filter for a week. After soaking for about 30 minutes, squeezing the sock periodically will help it to dissolve faster. Test and dose chemicals in your pool assuming the amount of CYA added is in the pool according to Poolmath. CYA can be tested the day after it is fully dissolved from the sock.

Liquid conditioner is a very thick product. It is best to shake the bottle well before dispensing. Follow the instructions on the bottle. If added to the skimmer, do so slowly to ensure water flow to the pump is not restricted. If added to the pool elsewhere, do so in an area that can be brushed as it may settle to the floor. Once emptied, it may be necessary to fill the bottle with pool water to help remove any residual thick product from the bottom of the bottle.

The pool is roughly 14k gallons and I have a heyward pump and sand filter, not sure of model. It is a salt water system but I have not added salt yet. Salt levels are around 1000 at the moment. I have bought some CYA and will get it in this evening.

Have you backwashed your filter?

What is your filter PSI?

Follow the SLAM Process and the SLAM FC levels.

I had been backwashing it very frequently when I first turned it on as the water was filthy. Filter pressure is sitting at about 11 psi which is about 1 psi up from the base readings.

I just added about 3 and 1/2 pounds of CYA which should bring me up to 30. FC dropped to 9.5 during the day, the sun has not made an appearance.
