Hi, Im thinking of purchasing a swg for my 12x24x4 pool. Im thinking of the Circupool Universal 25 which says its for 30k pool max. My pool is only 8860 gallons. Would that swg be good for my pool? Think the universal 40 is WAY overkill. Im the one who dug out my pool from being filled in few years ago and posted my progress.

Bigger the better. They have a rated life in hrs and typically oversized swcg are better $/# of chlorine. Mine is rated for a 40k gallon pool wish I got 60k version for a 11k pool.
 
the U25 is good for 17 FC per 24 hours for you. That's way oversized. Especially in NY with our short seasons. You'll only be running a couple hours a day and 10k hours will last years and years.

My 1.8X is plenty here and yours will be 3.3X. I would have gone 3X here for ROI, but they don't make a residential unit big enough.

Circupool has a forever scam, I mean sale, where they upgrade you to the next size for $10 or less, so make sure to look into buying the smaller one.
 
So you can run the larger one less per day and it will last much longer. But have to look at cost per lb of chlorine unless bigger one is more than 60%the cost of the smaller one get the bigger one. Just my 2 cents but over capacity on chlorine generator can never hurt you. I have to run mine for 6 hrs a day in summer in NH and I like to have the overhead for parties and many kids swimming.

Dont know how to figure cost of chlorine but Discount Salt Pool has the U25 on sale for either 786 for the 25 or use the 10$ upgrade to the 40 for $993
 
For about $200 more you get a 2000 lbs of chlorine(cheaper one is 1250 lbs over life of cell) it's up to you whether you can afford the upfront cost for the chlorine or not but for me I'd get the bigger one and get years and years more of life . The bigger one you will run less per day and if you have a traditional pool pump wulll save you even more money.

I'm with you up to 3X units here. At some point the electronics will fail from age and you'll be throwing away expensive plates with life left on them.

The U25 is $786 + $10 upgrade to U40, or has a $180 coupon off at DiscountSaltpool. I guess even they know they're ridiculous and nobody buys the actual model at cost. Lol. Anywho, I'd go U25 - $180.

For $190 more you could take your chances on longevity and get the U40 beast.
 
I haven't read much about electronics failing for chlorine generators on TFP. But I guess it must happen i've read a lot about cells needing to be replaced earlier than expected. I've also seen the The controllers being much cheaper than the cells maybe that's COVID pricing.
Waiting for the experts to chime in.

A 4.5X unit, such as the U40 on 8800 gallons, runs the risk of premature failure.

In a hot climate, you'd use those hours sooner with much longer seasons. That might be 16 years up north. :ROFLMAO:

From a ROI perspective, even if it failed early, the U40 would only have to live 30% longer than the U25 to break even.

It’s 10k hour lifespan rating when run at 100%

So that means…..
20k hours if run @ 50%.
So for instance….
if unit A produces 1#/day
& unit B produces 2#/day
Unit B will only need to run 1/2 as much as unit A to produce the same amount of fc in your pool thus it will take unit B twice as long as unit A to reach the end of it’s finite 10k hour lifespan.

The U25 is 7083 lifetime FC for $606, or $0.085 per FC. If you averaged 3 FC a day across the season, which is a conservatively high average for the northeast, it will last for 2361 days. Assuming a 4 month season and if you go longer than that the FC loss is so minimal it doesn't count........ the U25 should last 19.6 years. It's PLENTY big for you.

For funsies, the U40 is 11,250 lifetime FC for $796, or $0.07 per FC. That's 3750 days of 3 FC, or 31.25 four month seasons. It's awesome on paper, but it's not happening. Heck, 19.6 years of the U25 probably isn't happening either.

My controller seems to have died at year 4, though it may just be the keypad died and they offer replacements, but there’s a 7 year warranty so maybe it’ll be a free fix.

Hopefully that will get you back in business. Is your controller protected from the weather/uv at all?

Circupool warranties have always been prorated. Each line is a little different in how they do it. The priciest units have the longest.
Still better than most swcg warranties out there - especially for diyers.

I’m only mildly complaining. You used to not have to read the warranty text cause having a warranty meant that if it broke, the company would fix it. Now there seems to be lots of variations of what that means.

+1. The Mrs has a trademark line oft repeated..... 'better than no bucks'. Whether it's a $1.50 coupon or a $100 discount on something larger, the phrase comes out alot. Lol.

The Circupool warranties are a prime example. While $400 on year 3+ might seem too low, it whoops the 'no bucks' from the big 3.

Controller is under an eve but pretty exposed to the sun. I may have to rebuild the screening around the equipment pad and also add some shade as well to keep the sun off.
