I'm thinking of getting the Pentair Hybrid next week.

Has it been working for others?

I'm in the SF Bay Area.
I'm comfortable swimming in the pool at 7AM at pool temps down to 70, or even below.
My current winter electric rate is $.52 / kwh. My gas rate is $3.18 / therm.

My biggest concerns are:

1. Can I plumb the acidic condensate, after the neutralizer cartridge, to a hole in the ground?

2. Is it ok if I get infrequent night frost/freezes during the winter?

3. Will I save money if I only run the heat pump during the day - and use the gas to occasionally speed things along?

4. How low in ambient temp does it makes sense to run the heat pump?

5. How low in ambient temp does it makes sense to run the gas heater?

February temps are mostly 40's at night, 50's and 60's during the day. I did have a couple of nights where it dipped to 30/32.
February pool temp has been in the 50's. I turned the roof solar water on last week, and today the pool reached 62.
So far, my 20,000 gallon, 400 sq ft. pool temperature has dropped as much as 3 degrees during the night.
My pool is not suitable for a pool cover.

I would plumb the condensate to a drain to daylight.

Wrap the condensate drain with heat tape.

3. Will I save money if I only run the heat pump during the day - and use the gas to occasionally speed things along?

Let us know what you figure out.

Thank you, Allen,

I had to look up what "drain to daylight” means :)

My swimming pool and backyard are virtually all concrete.

I would have to break up the concrete to get to the dirt, except for an 8" strip of dirt along my rear fence, or the dirt on the side property line behind a retaining wall.

My sewer line is in the crawlspace and runs to the front yard and then down to the street, with no simple way to connect pool heater condensate.

I don't know how much gas heater and heat pump condensate to expect, but unless I put it into the ground, I suspect it will pool on top of the concrete RV parking area, between the retaining wall and side of the house.

I’m wondering if I should break up some concrete to construct a dry well-- please see the drawing at the bottom of this link:

Thoughts?

Thank you,
