This is the only test kit I have handy. It's time for a new full blown set of test levels and post here.
I just cleaned the filter and reinstalled it. Why is it only when I add 12% clorine does it turn the water cloudy green? Also if the issue is only algae what do I do to address it? After a couple of days without adding any additional chlorine ot seems to start clearing up by itselfThat's pretty much where your whole problem is.

Understood, but only adding 12% clorine to a pool should not turn the water green correct. Without breaking the bank which pool tester do you recomend for the future. For now I think I am just going to shut it down for the season as I seem to have no other choiceWithout a proper kit there's no way to slam the pool because there isn't a point of reference to guide you from. Those strips are very inaccurate and advice can't be based off them.
would this work https://www.lowes.com/pd/HTH-Pool-T...gTyShk1TERkbmZyUjNBoCfWEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.dsI like the Tf-100 if you don't have the SWCG system. I will highly recommend the Magnetic Smart Stirr which is out of stock as per the website, itll make testing a breeze and once you use it you'll never be caught without it. The kit will get you two years of use as long as it's properly stored. I wouldn't throw away the season because of it. With the kit you can get back on track.
I'm late to the party. Have you figured it out yet?My pool has been clear for most of the summer since opening it. I have noticed that only and everytime I add 12% liquid shock the water goes from being clear to a light greens/blueish color, which I have never seen before in all of the years of having a pool. It seems to clear up after a period of time. I have performed a basic test of the water and have
