Main Drain (am I in the clear?)

Hello TFP community.

My pool’s main drain was plugged at the bottom and skimmer. The previous owner (2005-2022) told me they never unplugged the main drain (I’m wondering if they were scared out of doing it by the company they used to service the pool). I’m still SLaMing the pool but yesterday I removed the plug at the skimmer. It’s now been over 12hrs and I have not had any noticeable drop in water level. Am in the clear or is there still the potential for a leak to come to light when I unplug the drain at the bottom of the pool?

Thanks for your help as always!

C,

Pools do not need main drains to work well. There thousands and thousands of pool without operating main drains and they all work fine.

Why do you think you need a main drain?

That said, if you take the plugs out, and find a leak, you can always just put the plugs back in.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim. My understanding is that I get “better” circulation using the skimmer and main drain (vs skimmer only) but I can live just fine without a main drain. I think I saw you mention on another post that you have (have had) 3 pools and can’t (couldn’t) tell a difference between with vs without a main drain. Figured I’d give it a try and if there is an issue I can replug everything as was.
