Easy Touch and Intelliflo pump not communicating

Good morning everyone. We had a big storm come through last night causing a power outage and when the power came back on I could not start the pump from the easy touch control panel. Also I was not able to connect through screen logic. On the pump screen I can control the pump manually and it works fine. Other components in the easy touch are also working, just not the pump. I have gone into the pump settings on the easy touch and it shows not connected. Is it possible the power outage blew out the COM port on my control board? I'm trying to figure out how to diagnose this so any guidance is appreciated. Thank you

M,

My 'guess' is that the storm took out your outside ScreenLogic Antenna (transceiver)..

With the EasyTouch in AUTO and Pool, go out a look at the pump's display and see if it says "Display Not Active".. If it does not, then most likely you have lost your RS-485 serial com port.

The first step in troubleshooting that problem is to unplug everything from the main card com port J20 except just the pump. With just the pump, and nothing else connected to the com port, go back and check the pump's display and see of it shows Display not Active.. It if does, it means your main card and pump's com ports are communicating and working and that something else (Most likely the Antenna) is bad.

If the pump and the EasyTouch are talking, then, one at a time, add back your other RS-485 devices and see when it quits working.

NOTE... Do not connect or disconnect anything from the com port with power on.. It can blow up the com port chips..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you for that information. I turned the power off unplugged everything except the pump, turned the power back on and the pump still reads zero RPM on the display. The comm Port originally had a jumper that went to an expansion card which I am guessing is for the screen logic has it had a com cable plugged in That goes directly to a screen logic adapter which then goes into my network router.

M,

It is quite normal for the main card to just have a jumper to the Surge card, and for the three ports on the surge card to be connect to everything else.

I just want to make sure that you moved the pump's RS-485 connection from the surge card and connected it directly to the main card. ????

If you did that, and with the system in AUTO (not Service mode) the pump's display did not say "Display Not Active", then that means either the pump or the main cards RS-485 chips are damaged. There is no simple way to know which one is bad. 90% chance it it the main card, and 10% it is the pump.

Also when you run that test, you need to let it sit for a minute or so as there can be a delay in the pump coming on line..

I re-read your post.. Do you have an expansion card.. Or do you have a saltwater system with what is called a surge card mounted to the back wall of the EasyTouch?? Either way... the test can only be done with the pump com cable connected to the main card and nothing else..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I did determine it is the surge card I was looking at. There was a jumper cable that went from the J20 connector where the pump cable attaches, a port on the surge card. I'm the picture below it is the connector on the lower left. The surge card also has 2 com ports, 1 is empty and the other has the screen logic connected to it. I disconnected the jumper from the surge card when I did the test and the pump display did not say display not active.20230720_074810_exported_566_1689908195463.jpg
