Pentair Remote Problems. Aux 5 flashing on/off

Hi,
First post, after a lot of reading.
After 8 years of working normally, the relay that controls aux 5 started clicking on and off rapidly yesterday. Which caused my equipment to shut off. There is nothing connected to the aux 5 relay. After doing some troubleshooting, I found that the problem was actually the remote. Aux 5 was also flashing on the remote. When I took out the batteries of the remote, everything went back to normal, and worked properly. I left the remote over night and put new batteries in it this morning. The aux 5 light started flashing again and the pool equipment stopped again. My question is…Is there anyway I can stop the signal from aux 5 from being sent to the remote, since I don’t use it anyway, or do I need a new remote. Thank you for your help.
Steve

If the remote button is stuck, the only way to stop the signal would be to cut a trace for button 5 somewhere on the keypad... the easiest place to do this is on the internal connector where the keypad connects to the board, but the keypads have to be cut open to get at it. You "may" be able to cut the button for aux 5 out of the vinyl overlay sticker itself, but you might risk damaging a trace that are used for other buttons.

before you go down that road... look at the transceiver card for the remote... it's in a little tan egg-shell looking enclosure. There should be an LED labelled "RF-LINK"... that should illuminate whenever you press a button on the remote, so if it's constantly lit, or flashing very quickly, that will indicate a truly stuck button.

Thank you!

Do I have to open the remote to see the RF-Link?
if I have to open this, Is the easiest way to cut it open along the seam with a dremel, and how deep should I cut?

Also, If I do get it working, what is the best way to close seal it again?

Thanks
Steve

no no... don't cut the remote open yet. the transceiver card is separate from the remote... it should be housed in a small oval-ish plastic case near your outdoor panel. there are two screws at the bottom of the housing that will allow you to open it

Does anyone know which trace I would need to cut to disable aux 5. I had a spare remote that had a dead screen, so I cut it open. Before I cut my other one open, I wanted to get some advice on how to do this. Thanks!

Also, on the one I cut open. When I press the menu button. All the buttons light up, by the screen is blank. Does anyone know why that might be. Other than the screen being dead, is there any other explanation as to why it would be blank? Thanks!

It's easiest to cut the trace on the clear plastic keypad connector... I cut out a little square with an exacto knife.

See here for a photo of how I cut the keypad connector:

I posted the pinout in the thread linked below, aux 5 is pin 8 (the button connects pin 8 to pin 7, where pin 7 is ground)
