Polywood Furniture

Hey all. The Mrs wanted folding adorandack chairs and a matching table. I didn't want to swamp the yearly budget but I also didn't want to buy the balsa wood ones at WM / Target. (Rated for 250 lbs ) I found these at HD, 2 for $179 and they were an inch bigger / wider, and rated for 400 lbs, so on paper they seemed much sturdier. They are nice and solid and I'm very happy with them. The matching table was $79 and also was sturdy. The details are in the 3rd pic.

What material are these made of? Is it the same HDPE recycled plastic that they make Plywood out of?

Solid acacia wood. On sale for $65 less than I bought them for. 🤦‍♂️

Can't ever win. ($120 for 2)

Learn something new everyday :

While some people prefer oak, acacia wood is harder. In fact, acacia is more durable than oak, mahogany, and maple, making it the preferred option for furniture used in high-traffic settings.

Doesn't costco do price adjustment within 30 days?

It's HD and I haven't tested their policies lately. I'm strongly considering buying the sale chairs and then returning them with the full price receipt as a regular return.
Probably would save yourself a whole headache of talking to some of these people who can't think outside of the box. I would do just that. Example, my wife and I just an hour ago walked out of Home Depot and got to the car and were loading stuff into the car. We bought 8 pipes, 8 pipe clamps and 8 vent caps and 8 vent pieces for a project. Looked at receipt and realized the woman rang up 10 clamps and 9 vent caps. In her rush she either didn't hear the beep of the scanner and rang things up twice. We went back in and had to go to customer service and the guy must have thought we were explaining nuclear fusion. He couldn't get what to do. I finally said just return two clamps and 1 vent cap and it would fix it. He couldn't get it (a return without actually getting a product back) and a manager had to come and I was like holy smokes folks this isn't brain surgery. It literally took like 20 minutes for them to wrap their brain around what to do. So my advice do exactly what you just said and save yourself the brain damage and the inevitable ulcer!!

Acacia is a pretty good wood for outdoor furniture. However, I suspect that the white finish will become a maintenance chore over the years. I feel the wood is better left stained then sealed with teak oil or something similar, or with just oil. But I do get the budget hit issue. It's always a compromise of $ resources now vs. labor resources later.

Got my Pollywood chaise lounges. Really high quality. Everyone likes them. BUT ... they're not comfortable if you have the back upright and sit for more than an hour. Considering getting cushions ... did most of you get the cushions from Pollywood or another outlet? Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't have any experience with them directly, but I've seen Sunbrella get recommended quite a bit.

I just received tracking info for our first Polywood order. I'll post some pics once it gets here and is assembled.

We have a section of seating that is "built-in" and I'm having some cushions made locally with an upholsterer that specializes in doing boats. My wife found an outdoor fabric that she likes. I'll post some of that as well. It might be another option you could pursue. Like anything else "outdoor" it seems to be you get what you pay for in terms of quality and longevity.

Has anyone else had quality control issues with the Polywood brand?

Based on positive feedback here, we ordered some chairs and side tables from Polywood.com. On one of the lounge chairs the back support section was missing all the screws that attach the slats to the side rails, and one slat screw was missing on the seat section. I called them and they promptly sent a new back section and a couple extra slat screws. However, the replacement back section was too wide to attach to the seat section properly! I ended up removing the screws I needed from the replacement back and used them to fix the original back. I sent an email (with pics) to them with my concerns about their quality control, but never heard back.

In the end, we’re happy with the chairs and side tables, but it was a bit of a hassle getting the one lounge chair right.

That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Tracking shows our order should be here Wednesday. I hoping I don't run into any issues with fitment.

When I opened up my Polywood Adirondack chairs, 1 of the chairs was missing 2 screws on one of the slats on the chair. I had built one of them a couple of weeks before and opened the 2nd one Memorial Day weekend, so the customer service line was closed. I took one of the screws out, went to Ace Hardware and grabbed a couple of stainless steel screws that matched the size of wood screw so we could use them over the weekend. What was rather odd was that the pilot screws weren't drilled either.

Contacted Customer Service and received the matching screws in about a week.

Polywood showed up yesterday. We initially bought a painted metal table and chairs. Unfortunately, they started to peel, crack, and rust after only two seasons. I decided it would not be worth the effort to maintain them properly as times passes. I'd rather be in the pool, or just hanging out!

A few pics of what we're replacing.

And now on to the Polywood.

The chairs shipped already assembled, that was a welcome surprise! I'm sure not every "design" is able to be shipped assembled, but I'm glad these were. Saved me some time for sure.

The table was pretty easy to assemble. About 16 or 18 screws in total, and it was very straightforward. If a person is even the least bit mechanically inclined they'll be able to knock this out in about 10 minutes. ETA: forgot to mention that there is a T handle allen wrench included for assembly. My 10 minute estimate assumes a person has access to power tools (which is what I used). If using the provided tool and just hand power, you might be closer to 20 or 25 minutes to assemble the table.

One thing I noticed right away is this furniture is pretty heavy. That can be a pro and a con, but I personally view it as more of a pro for us. If we were elderly or had limited strength/mobility this might be an issue. This stuff won't be blowing away anytime soon, and you are NOT going to accidentally move it, haha

Unfortunately, we did have an issue with one of the chairs and I will be contacting Polywood today. You can see it in the pic above if you know what you're looking for. Here is a close-up.

Overall I am very pleased with the furniture and the 20 year warranty is just incredible. It is truly a buy once, cry once purchase.

We plan to pick up a few more pieces, namely loungers and side tables.

I hope this info helps someone.

Is that a screw poking through?

Speaking of weight, I’m so glad we got the wheel option on the lounge chairs! It would be difficult for me to move them without the wheels.
When I called Polywood, the hold time was a bit long (20 minutes), but once connected to a rep she was very helpful.

I used the chat function to contact and it was pretty quick. Just need the serial number on the product to get it sorted quickly.

It sure is! Somebody got a little too happy with assembly on that one, haha.

I contacted Polywood through the Chat function on their website. The process couldn't have been easier. An AI bot asked some general questions in order to get me to the right person (and I assume for that person to have some background info before going into the chat), and once connected with a CS rep I attached the pictures through the Chat screen and they are emailing me a return label for this chair and sending out the replacement today.

It was disappointing to receive an item that QC should have caught, but they handled it well....and it is only furniture after all.

Great call on the wheels for the lounger. I was initially against that idea, but now I realize that is the only way to go with the weight of this stuff.
