The little stopper in the skimmer that prevents the weir door from opening into the pool is about to come off. I searched some threads, and it looks like people have had success with Loctite marine adhesive. However, I was curious if anyone knows if these are made of PVC. If so, it would seem that PVC cement with a clear primer might do an even better job, since it essentially melts/welds the pvc to itself. Thoughts?

I think pool putty would be a better choice. It bonds very well to skimmer material. I would use it and build up a fillet on the little stopper before it pops off.

Yellow is stopper, blue is side of skimmer, Red is the fillet. (fillet: a concave junction formed where two surfaces meet (as at an angle).

I would do a bigger one on the pool side and smaller on the skimmer side.

I hope this makes sense...

Interesting idea.

I just used loctite marine. To be honest I give it a 10% chance if working. I have the pump on low all night to keep the weir door open. I’ll update with results.

loctite marine
Yeah, the issue with Loctite marine is it is flexible. If it is flexible, the weir door hitting it, the LTmarine still allows movement, and ultimately failure.

The skimmer and stop is fixed. The pool putty is an epoxy that is also fixed, not allowing movement.

I hope it works!

Yup I hear ya. If this doesn’t work I’ll look at the putty or perhaps a plastic welding thingamajig.

I’ll snap a pic to show exactly how the current piece is broken if the loctite doesn’t tightly lock.

You've been around long enough to know that should have been in your first post. :poke:

No matter the problem, one gets more replies when everyone fully understands what's going on. 'Filling in the picture' is a big part of the equation.

The skimmer is made of ABS plastic
