Hello everyone!

Our pool was finished about 3 months ago and everything has been running smoothly until we noticed water pooling behind our sheer decent water feature. Upon investigation, we noticed the water leaking from the back of one of the pipes, as well as water seeping out of the concrete backing.

Often, we lower the sheer decent water pressure so that it trickles down the rock(makes a relaxing sound). Our pool company came out today to see what the issue is and they stated the sheer decent water feature can never trickle down the rock face; it has to shoot over it, into the pool. I questioned that it should not matter as the surface behind the rock veneer should be sealed for water and that water should not be absorbing through the cinderblocks and out the back. They insist I am using this feature wrong. Maybe I am?

I’ve had a water feature like this before and had the water trickle down the face and had zero issues. I remember my previous water feature had a great amount of waterproofing/sealant done but I am not 100% on this pool build if it was done properly. I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions. I hate wasting the water pool everywhere as well as the chlorinated water killing my plants.

Thank you in advance.

It is not a question of using the water feature wrong.

The sheer descent is not being used as it was designed.

It was between you and the builder to specify the design of your pool.

Now it will be between you and the builder to determine if there is any satisfactory remedy that satisfies both of you.

We have a similar feature on our pool, but only half as wide. If we reduce the flow any less than around 90% it leaks and puddles just like yours. so we keep it on full flow all the time. On windy days we still get some puddling. I can't say whether it was installed incorrectly; it was like this when we bought the house last year. But considering it is a 22-year-old pool we're just happy that it works.
