Hello Everyone,

Really happy I found this community!! I'm a total newb but I have two young kids that love to swim and we've always wanted a pool. We spent a few months interviewing PBs and settled on a local company here North of Charlotte.

Basic specs:
16x32 free form with spa
18" raised rear beam across backside with 2 sheer decents
SWG

I'll be posting pics and questions as the build progresses!! Already read most of the pool school articles so I think I understand the basics at this point.

Here are a few pics of design. I'm trying to figure out how to reduce size of my other images to share

Congrats Dynamo and Welcome !!!!

In your downtime, start with the Pool Care Basics. Youll hit the ground running on day one. There's still a learning curve but we're available to help around the clock. :)
 
What a pretty yard it was and will be again! I hear ya on cutting down the trees but you did the right thing in the long run!

Even though you are at the rebar stage it is not too late to run out there a measure to make sure they dug it right. Measure from the dirt not the rebar. Is it wide, long, deep enough? Add about 6" for the steel, shell, and plaster. It is NOT too late to change/fix it since the shell is not shot yet.

Water depth is measured from the bottom of the pool to the middle of the skimmer opening. Some people measure from the bottom to the coping for depth but the water only goes to the middle of the skimmer open so if it is measured that way you lose some water depth.
 
Appreciate the support, our backyard faces west so the afternoon sun is intense. We plan on putting up evergreens and 2 crepes on each side of the berm stratleing the water fall to help with the barren dessert look.

I've been reading up on initial fill up and I've been wondering if I need to truck water in or use the hose coming from the house. I did some rough math and it will take between 36-40 hours to fill the pool. Will this be too long with new plaster?

Also my contract with the builder states they will not balance chems at start up. I plan on buying the Taylor salt test kit but what other chems should I have on hand since I don't think I can use the SWG immediately after fill up. I'm thinking muriatic acid and chlorine at a minimum.

Get a kit first....... either the Taylor K-2006C/salt or the TFPro Salt. (The TFPro includes a SmartStir........cool add on you will use every day)

When you kit gets in, test your tap water. Are you drawing from a well?

I would only purchase liquid chlorine for now......perhaps more stuff when you post your test results.

+1. TFpro-salt all day long. When you add the included stirring device ($48) and the salt test kit ($30) to the K2006C, it's considerably more expensive.
