No Chlorine loss over winter?

Hi all,

It's just about that time here in NYC and I am slowly getting ready to open the pool. I have about 3 weeks before I open (planning for Memorial Day Weekend) but curiosity got the best of me and I managed to pry up the cover and stick a clean solo cup into the pool to get some water to test and see what its looking like.

Thankfully it is clean, at least from the darkness, I managed to stick my phone's flashlight and see some areas and it looked great but it was still too dark. There was no smell neither.

I went back inside to test the water and to my surprise, it looks like I haven't lost any chlorine over the winter? I did dump 1.5 gallons of 10% LC before closing and did brush and vacuum.

I am attaching some photos of the 'daily test' here. I cannot for the life of me read them. I will post more results in a bit but anyone have any idea why no chlorine loss? Am I thinking too much? The pH does look a little on the high side which I'll address when opening and before adding anymore chlorine.
I'll perform the DPD tests after the daily meetings.

Thanks all.

I made this mistake because curiosity got the best of me too before opening! But if you test before your pump has been circulating water, your test results are invalid.

Once you open and get the water moving, you'll get more accurate readings. Fingers crossed for nice, clear water at opening.

Well you can’t really tell if you loss any FC because 1.5 gals of 10% LC raised your FC to 27ppm.
Once you open and circulate the pool use the FAS-DPD test to confirm your FC level. The picture you show only go to 5ppm so you may have more than 5 but less than 27.

That shade of orange is a good omen. Mine goes orange-y at 8 or 9 FC and looks like yours at 12-15.

It will get used up quick now that it's warming up out. I suggest you get the pump running under the cover. Not only can you get reliable readings, but you'll know when to add more FC until you're ready to open for good. It would suck to lose a clear pool this late in the game, based upon an arbitrary calander date.

Just completed the tests.

19drops of R-871.... (19*0.5=9.5FC)
Then after adding the R-003, the water turned a very very and I mean very slight shade of purple.
1 drop of R-871 after R-003 = 0.5CC

I will test CYA after but I do agree, I should be running the pump and testing the water then.

Thanks for the advice!
