Hello all!!! I can't wait to show y'all some before and after of my pool remodel but goodness, it is taking forever to complete.plumbingq.jpg

1) I think my pool may have been serviced by idiots, who knows, but I know the part in yellow is unnecessary. How can I best fix that ? just cap it at the blue line and make the rightmost valve a 2 way? Is there a better way? Am I correct in understanding that if I ever set the left valve to off (which I *think* controls the pool jet returns), I cannot run the Polaris? If I would want them off to heat the spa, why wouldn't that be controlled by the actuator? Or is it?

2) The spa plumbing on the left I do not understand. I do not understand the two horizontal pipes and why they are needed. I understand that the purple actuator moves when the controls are put into spa mode. In pool mode (shown) the water flows down the right vertical pipe? and in spa mode it flows down the left? The red check valve is preventing water flowing which way (red)? what exactly is the green valve doing? I assume it's only doing something in pool or spa mode but I'll be darned if I know which. Does this look right?

3) getting a new heater and I am going to put in a bypass before it's installed if I can. I'm taking out the tablet dispenser because I don't use it, and it just gets in my way and is one more place for leaks. (we have hard water and my understanding is that tablets will raise my CH which I do not need). I already have the check valve for the bypass in place and just need to add the 3 way valve in the correct place. My question is how do you set it all to be certain you have the correct small amount of water running through the heater? We do not use the heater much so it'd be bypassed from about March to October, maybe even more.
I hope these are not really dumb questions. Y'all have taught me a ton and I appreciate it so much. :lovetfp:

Thank you thank you thank you,
Marci

Marci,

The valves in the yellow are there so that you can send heated water back down to your main drain. Almost useless and capping it off at the blue line should work ok.

You still want the valve on the pipe marked "floor" so that you can control the flow of the water coming from your main drain going into your pump.

There is just about no reason that you would ever want to close the valve on the pipe marked "Jet". This valve controls the water going to the pool returns.

You still need for the water to go into your booster pump (where the blue line is)..

The green valve controls the amount of water that flows over from your spa and into the pool. The check valve in Red is part of this system and prevents the spa from draining back into the pool when the pump is off. The water flow through the check valve is from right to left.. when Automated valve is in the Pool mode.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you!!

My pool guy seems to think the leftmost valve in the yellow circle controls the spillover from spa to pool which is why it is set partially open.

Is the valve in green able to be partially set?
Should the leftmost valve in yellow be removed then?

In spa mode, the water flows down the left vertical pipe and the check valve keeps it from going right?

Thank you so much, I really want to understand it all

Marci,

I am assuming the pic was taken with your automation in the Pool mode.. If that is true, then your pool 'toy' is wrong...

The left most yellow valve is set to full open in your pic. I'd just leave it as is. It is not hurting anything. You can remove it if you want, just not necessary.

The green valve is so you can control your spillover from the spa. As a test shut it off (vertical) and the spillover should stop. **

When in the Spa mode, I assume the purple valve will rotate 180 degrees and the water will go down the left pipe and into the spa jets.

** If the spillover does not stop, then I assume your pool guy has misadjusted the purple valve.. :(

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you again

I just figured it out...he thinks that because if he partially closes it, less water is going thru the pool jets so more is going to the spa jets. Which is how he was adjusting the spillover the other day

I need to play around with it and be sure it's all working. I really appreciate finally understanding it! My brain doesn't like that water flowing right to left thru that check valve though😂

Marci,

The pipe on the left goes to the spa.. The pipe on the right goes to the pool. Forget the word 'jets' on the right pipe..

The over flow only works in the Pool mode.. The green and red valves just steal a little of the water going to the pool, and send it to the spa.

The only way that can happen is for the water to flow from the right pipe (pool) over to the left pipe (Spa).

Thanks,

Jim R.
