Rain/storm filled pool to brim - dangers to closed pool?

Hi there,
I have my pool closed with cover and pillow, We are having a major wind storm in Indiana and somehow it upended the winch clamp and the cover has blown into the pool along with all the water on the cover, despite me checking the clamp recently. Now, the water level is almost to the top ledge overflowing, the cover is inside, and it's too windy to put the cover back on - I just tried - and too stormy to use the submersible pump.

What are the dangers, till tomorrow, leaving the pool as is with the high water level? (now I will have a total mess of water inside the pool!!! We can't open till early May due to frost concerns. Ugh.)

Thanks so much,

Do you have the skimmer or return blocked ?
You could open one of those & connect a pool hose / backwash hose to divert the water away from the pool. This way you wouldn’t have to worry about it draining down too far or messing with an electric pump.

From looking at your past posts, you may have used a device to close off the opening to the skimmer inside the pool, correct? If you have a submersible pump drop it in and lower the water level at your first opportunity. You could use a manual vacuum hose and drain the pool using the siphon method if you don't have a submersible pump.
As far as the sunk cover goes, you'll have to fish it out later and slam the pool when you open it.

Thanks for the advice (and research :). I used a submersible pump to get the water level down today to ALMOST the level it would be normally when swimming/skimming, maybe 1-2 in higher. Is that enough? I do have a skimmer guard and the return is plugged up. This is my first year using those instead of draining to 6 in. below skimmer. We probably won't have super cold weather with the water freezing at this point, but.....even if we did would it still be OK to leave the water a little higher than usual with the skimmer cover/plate and return plug? Also, I was able to get the cover back on and secured, thankfully.

Thanks,
Kristin

You're good. (y)

Sorry you're back earlier than you planned, but welcome back. :)

That sounds good 👍🏻wrangling the cover when water gets on it can be a bear!
be sure to keep the cover pumped off going forward & be sure to open before the water goes above 60 degrees to prevent things from going super funky & to make clean up &
SLAM Process if necessary go easier.
