Hi,

I left on vacation and when i came back my pool had lost at least 10 inches of water. After looking at it carefully, I noticed a large crack (see the pictures). Could this be the reason for the leak? When i bought the house a in Sept 2021, the pool inspection company noticed this same crack and charged $600 to fix it.

I called a leak detection company and they'll charge $695 to just find the leak. Should I still call a leak inspection company?

What type of warranty did you get from the original repair company? It has been 16 months but what was your specified warranty?

The repair was done by the previous owner, the inspection does not mention any specific warranty :(
I think they applied epoxy. I called and the person on the phone mentioned that epoxy may either last a few weeks to a few years.

The $600 you paid was probably for patching the leak.
To fix the situation you must first find out what is causing the cracks to appear, most likely movement has taken place and this needs to be addressed first.
Staples or stitches may need to be installed if the reason is movement.

Is this the kind of thing a leak detection company will be able to tell me?

A leak detection company could certainly confirm that area or any other(i.e. plumbing). I had a leak check done last year and it was about $500 just for the diagnosis. I did the repair myself. In your case, are you able to swim or get to the crack well enough with some food dye? If you could carefully, without disturbing the water too much, squirt some dye around the crack you would see it get sucked out through the crack if that is indeed the culprit. It may be the crack as there appears to be some dark gaps along that crack, but you never know. There's always a chance the leak could be somewhere else too. But if you are physically able to get close enough to test with some dye, I would do that first.
