I had my pool built in July of 2022. I have noticed that since the temperatures have dropped, my plaster will dust and has a slight paste feeling to it if I rub it. The water is clear and there are no visible problems with it. I'm wondering if rhus is normal since it is less than one year old.

Welcome to TFP.

Sounds like early signs of algae.

Do a Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

What test kit do you use?

Post a complete set of test results:

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

I also noticed this hairline crack on the floor. It's straight and clean, maybe something scratched it.20230107_172153.jpg

What is your CYA?

Your FC is likely too low. See the FC/CYA Levels

How do you chlorinate your pool?

If I circled what you are looking at it does not look like anything to worry about...

Cya was 40.
Right now my salt cell is set at 30%.

I'm just confused why it would leave a slight white residue on my fingers when I rub it.

Rob,

Welcome to TFP! A little more information would help us help you. Please fill in your signature. Here's how. 30% could be too much or too little, we need to know the brand and model number for your swg. Powder at the bottom could be a new pool that's not getting cleaned enough or beginnings of algae. Can you collect some and send us a photo? What color is it? Here's what I'd do if it was my pool:
  • During the winter you can get by with lower CYA but our recommendation is 60 ppm minimum.
  • Your current FC is too low and asking for algae when your pool heats up. Bring your FC up to target or higher on the FC/CYA chart with liquid chlorine asap. Perform an OCLT test.
  • If the OCLT test is failed, perform a SLAM until all 3 conditions are passed.
  • Once your SLAM is done if needed, make adjustments to your chlorinator to stabilize in a range such that the minimum it your FC target on the chart and a couple ppm higher at the high level. You can estimate your settings with Pool Math:
    • Just look at the "effects of adding" from the drop down top left.
    • Fill in the pool size, select swg then select your brand and model number. Play with % and hours to get 2-3 ppm FC added per day. This is a good place to start.
    • You may need to tweak a little up or down 'till you stabilize in a range.
    • Don't micro-manage it. FC will run in a range not a constant number.

Like the others here I wouldn't be too worried about the mark in the bottom. Looks like something was dropped or drug on the bottom and not deep enough to matter.

I hope this is helpful. I placed a couple video's below that may be helpful also.

Chris
