Pentair Freeze Protection Mode

I have a Sta-Rite Intellipro VSF model 013004 pump. The outside temp is below freezing and the pump is in the freeze mode, however the flow is very low. I don't remember the flow reducing in the past. Screenlogic indicates the flow is 28GPM which is the normal flow rate when the pump is running. The wattage shown is 33 watts which is way below what it takes for 28 GPM. Any thoughts?

Steve,

Is the EasyTouch in the Freeze mode or just the pump?

The IntelliFlo normally runs at whatever speed is assigned to the Circuit that is active (on). Generally, this would be the Pool Circuit or the Spa Circuit.

You can assign the "on with Freeze" Circuit a speed that you want the pump to run when in the freeze mode.

I have never seen this in operation, but the pump itself has an internal freeze protection.

Does ScreenLogic show that the system is in freeze mode?

Are your Pool and Spa circuits set to be freeze protected?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Right now we are out of the freeze mode. Screenlogic showed Freeze mode on. How do I tell if the pump is in the freeze mode and can a speed be set just for the pump? When Screenlogic indicated that it was no longer in the freeze mode the system still ran at very low flow. I turned the pump off and back on via Screenlogic and everything started and ran as it should.

Steve,

Show me your circuits set up page and pump speed page, like this..

I know the IntelliFlo manual says the pump has its own built-in freeze protection, but I have never seen it in operation as most people use the Automation's freeze control.

Speeds can't be directly assigned to the pump, but they can be assigned to Circuits that are associated with the pump. If you look at my examples, you can see how this works. In that pump speed list, you can add the "On with Freeze" Circuit, so that when the freeze mode kicks in, that is the speed that the pump will run.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Steve,

I don't see anything obviously wrong, so not sure how much help I can be...

In theory, assuming that nothing was scheduled to be running when freeze control kicked in, the system should have tuned on the Pool mode and the pump should have been told to run at 28 GPM. About every 15 minutes, the system should switch over to the Spa mode and then back to the Pool mode.

I have no idea why the pump was running slow.

If this was my pool, I would want to make sure it works the way it should, before it actually gets cold. I suggest that you put your air temp probe in a glass of ice water and see how your freeze control works. Set the system up to the way it would normally be in the early morning, and then make the air temp probe cold and see if the pump comes on at the right speed and that your system switches between the pool mode and spa mode.

If it works great, if not, I seem to remember something about using either all GPM or all RPM. So, if it does not work, you might change the one circuit that you have as RPM to GPM.

Other than that, I've got nothing... :(

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim,
Thanks, I noticed this morning it was switching between pool and spa modes. It will be cold again tomorrow so I will see if it does it again. Since I will be going away do you know if there is any way to see the screen that actually shows pump speed, rpm, gpm and wattage on the android app? If I could see that, I could do a restart again in hopes that would work like today. Thanks so much for your help.

Steve,

I use my PC 99.9 % of the time, but I was sure you could monitor the actual pump speed on your phone... Until I just looked... :(

I can't find anywhere that it can be done.. Maybe it is there somewhere, but it was not obvious in either the ScreenLogic or SLConfig apps.

Thanks,

Jim R.
