Use a pipe nipple extractor. They can be had at most hardware stores in the plumbing or irrigation sections. You can look them up online to find one that will work for you. Or you could try a pair of long needle nose pliers to get between the plastic of the gizmo and and the pipe.
If all else fails, gizmo material is fairly soft and will probably cut easily with a sheet rock knife. Cut out an X and it will pull right out with a pair of pliers pulling one of the flaps.
