Hello,

I am trying to close my pool for first time by myself. I am trying to blow out the main drain but I am not seeing any bubbles coming out of it. I have tried the air compressor as well as shop vac. I just want to know where should my valves be. Attached is the pic. If anyone can please help me.

Thanks.

Welcome to TFP! Of those two valves, one controls the main drain, so it needs to be open with the skimmer valve closed. If you have two skimmers, I suspect the valve on the left controls suction from the two skimmers while the valve on the right is for the drain. See the illustration below to help understand how the handle works. Also understand that a small compressor or Shopvac may not provide enough volume of air to push through the drain line. Products such as a "Cyclone" are designed for that purpose.

Also be sure to visit our Pool Care Basics page for more info.
