We just installed a Raypak heater. 400 btu .

The current pool water temperature is around 75-78 degree. When the Raypak is turned on (but nor firing up) it reads 75 degree.
When I turn on the heater mode to pool/spa and set the pool temp to 85 degree the heater turns on. A spark reading displays and the flame fires up. Everything is good.

As the heater does its thing. I see the set temperature on display and below it the current temperature reading that keeps changing (heating up) rather quickly

Here is my question or observation.

Is it normal for the current temperature to reach the "set" temperature within 5 minutes or less? When it does reach the set temperature the heater shuts off. Obviously the temperature of the water did not reach 85 yet.

Less than a minute later it will fire up again and do the same thing over and over. I'm wondering if this is normal and this is how the heater should operate.

It kind of make sense to me there would be a mechanism that cycles the heater on and off before reaching the set temperature so the unit does not overheat but I'm not understanding if the moving temperature reaching the set temperature so fast and turning itself off is normal operation.

Thank you for your help.
