This morning I made my way to the kitchen, see an ant on the kitchen bench. Ignore it, have to set priorities, coffee first. Start my milk in the frother, turn the coffee machine on (one of those automatic ones where you fill in beans and press a button to get your morning fix). See another ant, and a few more, until I realise they are coming out of the machine.

Get the tray out, ants everywhere. Get the vacuum, add a fine nozzle made from a straw to suck them up, but more and more.

In the end, I spent the morning disassembling the coffee machine to find the actual nest. And all of that without my morning coffee. But I think I got them all now. I'll leave the machine open for a while to make sure they're all gone. Finally got my coffee the old fashioned way.

Ah I’m wondering how long you actually were drinking ant coffee each day if there was an actual nest in there!

😳.

I'm not too worried there. They were not inside the actual brewing unit, beans container or anywhere where water or coffee flows, apart from the grounds tray. Mainly inside the electronics housing. And I think they just started moving in from somewhere else where they had been disturbed. When I first saw the trail, they were carrying their eggs into the machine. When I started to disassemble the machine and getting in with the vacuum cleaner, they started to carry them out again.

I also love eating a sweet, viscous substance that gets regurgitated by bees. I guess, if I had concerns about my coffee, I should stop eating honey. And I can assure you that my coffee machine is now cleaner than it's ever been since it made its first cuppa.
