I’ve added 3 pounds dry acid . Now 3 doses @ 10 oz a piece Muriatic acid. I read pool school and it says not too chase the perfect ph. I understand that but I’m not sure if mine is in range . I’ve used 3 tests and will include all results.
Im mostly concerned about ph . But please give me your thoughts on ph or what mine actually is ? My friend works for a public pool and uses a lamotte color q. This is his results
Fc-4.6
Tc- 4.7
Ph- 6.8
Alkalinity 89
Ch 13
Cya 53
Next our my results using ft100 and the digital ph meter they sell
Digital ph -7.84
Fc-5
Cc-0
Tc-5
Ch-150
Ta-80
Cya-50
The numbers are not that far off except for calcium hardness and ph. My own conclusion is the chlorine reading using the daily tester kit is not accurate. The yellow is definitely darker than 5 which is what my R0871 proved it is . But both test I’ve used determined 5 and his was 4.6 which I’ll round too 5 . Judging by the dark yellow it seems the chlorine is much higher . The ph on this same test seems almost like an orange color. It’s hard to tell in the pic I think , but maybe it’s not. I’ve included that for you guys to take a look. So after all is said and done. What is my ph ?????

It's a 'do I have chlorine' test. When you spot test with it, make sure the yellow is YELLOW in order to have enough to make it to tomorrow.

I'll say 7.2 for PH. I use a finger from each hand and block off the value above and below the one I want to compare. It makes it way easier to not have to choose best of 3 at all times. Just....

This one? Nope.
That one ? Nope.
The middle one? Meh, close enough.

If you dose too early, your pennance is that next time comes earlier too. If you dose too late, a few days will never matter.

Your pH is 7.2. Anywhere in the 7s is ok.

The dark yellow simply means you have chlorine in the pool. Don’t waste brain cells trying to figure out a number for it.

Ok so remember I have ocd lol.
At 7.2 should I just leave it alone. ? I see 7.6 is perfect but I definitely want to start enjoying my
Pool rather than playing the ph game. Also is the ph side of the daily testing meter more accurate than the chlorine side ? I’m assuming your saying 7.2 based off my pic

Yep. If you're chlorinating with liquid chlorine then the pH will rise as the pool offgasses, especially with aeration/splashing. So it'll come up to 7.6 on its own in time.

Just don't use trichlor/dichlor as they're acidic, and 50 CYA is pretty ideal and you wouldn't want to add more CYA anyway.

Leave your pH of 7.2 alone. It will rise in time naturally. It does not need your help no matter how much you want to adjust it.

The yellow pH meter is low quality and not reliable long term in my opinion although some others feel differently.

Yes, the pH drop test is more reliable then the chlorine side. They are very different chemical tests.
