Pool service company just added 8 bags of salt to our chlorine pool. Where do we go from here? (Back story : our PB upgraded us to a salt system to get around backordered control panels. We did not /do not want salt, agreement was that they would install but not activate the salt system. Appears they failed to inform the service company they contracted with to install equipment & do initial 30 day service.) A2BEAE9E-6869-4EDF-B538-1B635C5F0D07.jpeg

I would move forward with connecting and use the salt system. It will be easier to manage in long run. Also adding LC will continue to also add salt to the pool. So just go with it. It is a blessing in disguise.

How many pounds were each bag? The salt won't hurt anything. Some people add salt to regular chlorine pools to make the water feel softer on the skin. Using chlorine will add more salt which will build up over time.

Why not just use the salt cell?

Interesting, most people prefer salt. Some opt for non-salt due to the higher initial cost of the SWCG, but I've never seen anyone pay for a salt system and not want to use it.

You have 2 choices:
1. Turn on the salt system and enjoy your easy to maintain salt pool.
2. Dump the water and refill. Make sure you really think this through, as most of the cons of saltwater pools are myths from builders and equipment manufacturers.

MP,

You have two choices..

1. Drain the pool and start over.

2. Try the saltwater pool for a couple of weeks and you will never go back to a non-saltwater pool again.

Edit. I have three saltwater pools that I would rather fill in, as to have them be standard chlorine pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.

A free SWG - count your blessings. Lugging liquid chlorine gets old really quick and the price of all forms of chlorine is gone up quite a bit.

Post the details of the SWG here so we know what you have.
Also, do you have a reliable way to test the salt level in the pool water?

How are you presently testing your pool water? List your test kit.

Appreciate everyone’s responses ! Sounding like our chlorine pool with roof solar (separate post) has morphed into a salt pool with no solar 😅.

don’t laugh but I don’t even recall exactly why.
You see ? You screwed it up !!!! You didn't want to haul gallons and gallons of bleach from the store. I had to do it *once* with my new pool. It took an hour and a half and 3 stores to find fresh supply. The next week it would have been a different order of who had what. That's what you didn't want to do. Bleach.

You were ALL for SWG in '21.

Just in case it wasn’t obvious, a chlorine pool and a salt pool are exactly the same except that the salt in the water of a “salt pool” is used to generate the chlorine for you. It’s a very low level of salt and not like ocean water. Both types need the same amount of chlorine.

You got a free salt system and don't want it? You scored big there and your life will be much easier. I would definitely go with it

I'd get a good test kit now, make sure your PB is doing a good job. And you'll need it when you take over pool maintenance.
☝️☝️☝️☝️This! Use that SWCG to your advantage and take over pool “maintenance” asap. Your salt cell will keep your maintenance to about 10 minutes per week - it’s SO easy! Without a SWCG, you’d be constantly adding liquid chlorine, and worse, trekking back and forth to stores to buy it and then finding a place to store it - total pain. Once you get into the habit, you’ll find testing super easy and you’ll appreciate the empowerment of knowing what’s going on with your pool.

Ordering a kit from TFP today, thank you 😊

That amount of salt, if the bags were 40# (most are), should have raised your salt level by about 2100ppm.
Not sure which cell u have (please add it to your signature) but most like 3000-3500ppm of salt.
Definitely test with the k1766 before adding more.
To Use PoolMath to track your csi (recommended for the longevity of your cell & your pool finish) you will also need to put your salt level in among other parameters even if u don’t wish to run the swg.
