Hi Everyone,

NY is going to be experiencing a heatwave over the next few days and it has me thinking if there is any proactive measures I should be taking for my chems. My latest log is below. I think everything is in order (maybe except CYA needs to rise a bit), can I get any advice and thoughts? I was thinking of running my SWG on MAX for the next few days as a precaution? Also, I have a gallon of liquid stabilizer I could use to get to 70ppm on the CYA reading probably. What do you think?

Air temperature has little effect on water chemistry..
Your chemistry looks fine. Not sure how you are measuring it -- the TA cannot be measured to that value using the test kits we recommend.

Sorry to Hi Jack your thread, but I see you are in NY (me too) and have the Circupool RJ60+ SWG. I am considering the same unit and have close to the same size pool. A few questions if you dont mind?

Are you happy with it?

Do you find the unit produces enough chlorine for the size of your pool?

How long have you had it?

Would you buy again?

Can you control it from your phone?

I commend you for catching that. I use the TF Pro Kit. On the TA test, I measured to half the value between 60 and 70 based on color change intensity. Is the test complete on the first sign of change? Then it would be 60. Thank you.

From the Extended Test Kit Directions in Pool School.
Counting the number of drops as you go, add R-0009 one drop at a time, swirling to mix after each drop.
  1. Continue adding drops until the color changes to something more or less red, pink, yellow, or clear. The sample may switch between green, blue, and gray while you are adding drops. That is not the color change you are waiting for.
  2. Continue adding drops as long as the color continues changing. The final drop, that does not change the color any further, does not count.

This is very helpful, I don't know if I knew about these extended test kit directions. I will go find/read now. So then my TA is 70.
 
Additionally, you can't measure a CYA of 65. If you can see the dot at 70 and not see it at 60, the CYA is "somewhere" between 60 and 70 - but just round up to 70. Half way between 60 and 70 on the tube is not 65 as the scale is logarithmic and not linear.

When doing the CYA test, it's much easier to fill the test tube to a line on the tube and look to see the dot - with a glance only. If you see the dot, fill to next line and repeat. Once you can't see the dot, round up to the next higher number. If you saw the dot at 70 and didn't see the dot at 60, round up to 70.

Only GLANCE to see the dot, if you look to hard for it, your brain will "see" it. Just glance and move on with the test.

You can also pour the mixture back into the bottle, mix again, and repeat the test a few times. Then take the average of the results.

Thank you! Sometimes I find myself trying to find the dot and staring too long. I am going to retest again today.

Lower to waist level
Just GLANCE to see the dot (you can glance several times, just don't look for too long)
