Auto cover lid options

Hi all, we're currently in the building process and have a question about auto cover lids. We are installing the Coverstar Eclipse. The base option is a standard aluminum lid, but we're also quoted ~6k for a walk on option. Has anyone else been quoted the same option, and does that seem to make sense? It's odd to me that it would cost 50% of the entire unit.

And has anyone chosen that option? Was it worth it?

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

What material will be used for the walk on lid?

Here is a recent thread showing pics of lids...

Unfortunately I can't tell you what the incremental cost was (as it was bundled in the bid), but for our coverpools cover the installer fabricated stainless steel arms and brackets in turn support matching coping pieces. The result looks very nice, but the cast concrete pieces are quite heavy will likely make routine maintenance harder.

Hi, thanks for the link. I did check that out, but was looking for more functional experiences vs aesthetics.

Our material would be cast concrete coping tiles that are roughly 1'x2'. From the sample in the showroom, I know they are quite heavy and will make maintenance a bit harder. Assuming that's only once a year, seems worth dealing with for the improved aesthetics.

That sounds pretty similar to what we built. 1' wide will not cover the vault, you should check to see if there is a 24" wide version of the same coping.
Once a year may be a bit optimistic (but my cover is brand new so don't know how bad it will be). The problem is that any debris on the cover when you open it falls down into the vault and will need to be cleaned out from time to time. With ours if there is a lot of fallen leaves and pine needles I'll blow it off with my leaf blower before opening, but with only a little bit I just open the cover and figure I will need to clean out the vault from time to time.

Thanks, I may be misremembering. They might be 2x2 and I was thinking of the half sample I was lifting.

Are you glad you went with the walk on version? Any issues with alignment on those pavers?

Yes we're happy with the final result and particular I like the fact that the cover disappears entirely (the aluminum bar on the leading edge ends up completely under the edge of the coping.) It did take a fair amount of fussing on the part of the installers to get them level and even, and they are still not perfect. When i open up to clean I may see if I can adjust them better myself. It was also complicated by the round nose profile which meant the corners needed to be mitered.'

Here is a more recent picture showing where the bar ends up:
