1st Time New Pool Owner ( Long time hot tub owner ) …GREEEEN 🤮

One more would be great. Anywhere 40- 60 is manageable. As it is, an 80 isn't the worst thing in the world today. It will require a bit more FC but is just enough on the side of feasible if you want to start from there.

You do have the setup all, well, set up right now. So there is that vote to keep going.

Hello @Leeboy20 , fellow Canuck here :). For what it's worth, I was in this same spot last year with high CYA. Folks here helped me with the same process you are doing so you are in the right place! It definitely took a lot of water to get that exchange done but I was able to get mine into the 40 range and stopped using pucks for good. Now I only use liquid chlorine. I would consider using pucks for a few days if I was not able to attend to the pool for a bit but I know that's ok given my CYA is now in the 30 range. When my CYA finally dropped down last year, I started to SLAM. I was able to get the water cleared up and then I tweaked TA and PH after. High FC will skew your PH readings anyway so if the pool isn't clear, I'd attack it with the SLAM. Good Luck and if you need to restock reagents etc. I have a Canadian source. Good Luck!

Thank you very much for responding , I’ll go with this advice and slam the “ you know what “ out of it . Funny thing about the regent , I’m already into my last bottle of CYA test liquid . That one goes fast

The CYA test does consume a lot of reagent quickly. That one uses a lot of solution for sure. You might need to break open that second kit just for yourself! Taylor test kits are pretty common so getting refills isn't as challenging as getting the kit in the first place. I find that even a lot of local pool stores have the reagents in stock so you should be able to find some locally. The good thing with that CYA test is that once you know where the value is doesn't change a lot. You will lose a little more over time due to splash out and back washing but it doesn't just evaporate out of the pool. So, point is, once you get it where you want it, you don't have to test for it that often. Not saying you should never test for it, but I've learned that it's not something that changes much provided you aren't sanitizing with stabilized chlorine (pucks). Have fun with the Slam. Note, I've found that the best place for liquid chlorine in my part of Canada is still with my local pool company. They sell LC in bulk and you can get 12% in refillable containers. This is now the only thing I buy from them. The price is same or better than buying from Walmart or Canadian Tire. I ordered my baking soda off Amazon and buy the Borax from Walmart. I might need my pool company for service and repairs at some point so I still like to have a little relationship with them. Even if it's only $20 for LC LOL.

Keep Maintaining slam level (24ppm) for your cya (60ppm) as often as u can. *Clean/backwash filter when pressure rises 25% over clean pressure.
*Vac & or brush every day. (This breaks up the biofilms algae makes to protect itself from chlorine)
*Check/scrub ALL the nooks & crannies (light niches, ladder rails/cups, umbrella holders, drain covers, skimmer throats, weir doors (foam), etc.
* Run SLAM level water through all water features daily
SLAM ON 👍🏻

Hey Lee! Look at this link! Shows you what you have to look forward to!

It is safe to swim with fc levels between minimum & slam level for your cya so long as u can see the bottom of the deep end for safety - stay on it & you’ll definitely be there before August

Morning Everyone …. It’s looking much better once again . Thanks 🙏 to all the members here . Here is a few more pics . When can I fire up the creepy crawler ( I have no idea how to use it) EDIT the pictures don’t do the colour justice .
