Yeah I think I just needed some further tightening.

I’m up and running. Have had the pump on high for about 6 hours now. Going to keep it on high for at least 24 hours then probably switch it to low.

I have the timer set to manual (always on for now), what’s best practice for a 24’ round by 52” above ground pool? 1.5hp pump.

Which pump do you have?
I have a Hayward matrix 1.5hp 2 speed that in reality is a 1hp pump. They lie through the service factor rating on the motor... That said a 1hp pump is more than enough.

I run it 24/7 in low and only use high for vacuuming. Besides using far less power I feel the sand filter I have works better in low speed.

My reasoning for never shutting off the pump is the more the skimmer catches the less ends up on the bottom and the less I have to vacuum.


You'll see many opinions on here but I felt the cost to run the pump in low 24/7 was more than reasonable at least in my area.

So after a big rainfall last night I came out an noticed brownish spots all over the bottom of pool… is this algae forming already? I did test strips yesterday morning and just needed to add some Stabilizer, which I did around 5pm about 4 hours before the storm. Want to cut this off before becomes a huge problem.

Was running the pump on high nonstop but switched to low after adding the stabilizer.

EDIT- think I’m okay here, looks like some sand settled into different spots that may have been in there from installing the liner. Was a little bit on top rails that probably washed into the pool during the rain as well. Figure I’ll just have to vacuum that up.

Be sure to maintain the high target 🎯 fc level for your cya FC/CYA Levels & u should avoid any problems. However, if u are ever in doubt or u accidentally dip too low an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will confirm or deny your suspicions. Also algae “poofs” - sand & dirt feel gritty 😊 Happy pooling!
