Pentair Easytouch programming various pump speeds

Trying to learn how to program/set up my Easytouch 8. I have the Filter/Pump button set to run my pump at 3100 rpm. No spa. So If I want to run the pump manually (not part of my schedule) I just push Filter/pump. How do I set things up if I want to run the pump at one of the lower speeds? Can I somehow assign various speeds to the Aux buttons and just press those when I want?

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, I’m trying to understand the system and having a hard time with it.

54,

The EasyTouch controls the IntelliFlo speeds depending on what "Circuit" is on. Each Circuit can only have one speed assigned to it.

Most people set their Pool circuit to the lowest speed they ever want to run, and then add additional speeds by using feature circuits. As an example... If Pool is set to run at 1200 RPM, and Feature circuit 1 is set to run at 1500 RPM, then when Pool is on the pump will run at 1200, and when you also turn on Feature 1 the pump will increase speed to 1500.

If only the Feature 1 circuit is on, the pump will run at 1500, but if you then turn on the Pool circuit, the pump will not slow down, it will continue to run at 1500. When the pump see two or more speeds, it will always run the fastest speed.

Here is an example of my speeds...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks. I understand how to set the pump speeds. What I want to know is how to activate them other than using Schedule. Can I assign the actual “buttons” on the panel so that if I physically press one it will run the pump at that speed? Or can it only be done by using Feature Circuits?

54,

A schedule just turns on a "Circuit". You can also manually turn on the same circuit.

So, you could assign a speed of say 2000 to Aux 1. When you manually turn on Aux 1, the pump would run at 2000. If you scheduled Aux 1, that would also run the pump at 2000.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Pump speeds set;

Rpm. Circuit
3250. Aux Extra
2500. Aux 4

Schedules (2)

Aux Extra. 5:00 am- 9am
Aux 4. 9:00 pm - 5:00 am

Would like to manually turn on Aux 4 at 2500 when I want to. When I push the Pump/Filter button it goes to 3250 rpm.

54,

I must not have been clear about how speeds work. If the pump sees two or more speeds at the same time it will always run the fastest one.

So, between 5 am and 9 am the pump will run at 3250. Turning on Aux 4 (2500) will have no effect!!! Unless you turn off Aux X first.

Between 9 pm and 8 am the pump will run at 2500, but if you then turn on Aux X the pump will increase in speed to 3250.

If you never schedule the Pool mode, your SWCG will never run as the pump/filter relay will never close.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Sorry but I don't understand this. What is Pool mode? Why wouldn't my SWCG run when the other modes are running from 5am to 9am and from 9pm to 5am? All the SWCG requires is the pump to be running and water to be flowing.

When the pump is not scheduled to run, from 9am-9pm I still cannot get the aux 4 to run manually. That is my problem.

54,

I should have said... "If your SWCG was wired correctly, it would not run unless the Pump/Filter relay was closed. The Pump/Filter relay will not close unless the system is in the Pool mode or the Spa mode and the pump is running. It is a safety feature to prevent the cell from blowing up if the flow sensor in the cell goes bad"

I suspect that Aux 4 does not work for you because you have an EasyTouch-4. The ET-4 does have 4 relays, but one of them is the Pump/Filter relay and then Aux 1, 2 and 3. You have to have an ET-8 to have Aux 4 through 7. An ET-4 come with 4 relays inside, and the ET-8 has 8 relays inside, but they both have the same front panel with 8 buttons.

If you do have an ET-8, then you are doing something wrong, as I ran a test on my system it works like I described.

Let me know and maybe we can figure it out.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I do have the ET-8 model. And I haven’t installed the SWCG yet. What other info can I get you to figure out my problem? I inherited this system from the previous home owner and I don’t think he paid any attention to the pool at all. He had a pool service do everything..

54,

I deleted all my schedules and then assigned a speed to Aux 7. I made sure nothing else was running and of course with no schedules, the pump was off.

When I pushed the Aux 7 button on the panel, the IntelliFlo powered up and ran at the assigned speed. I only used Aux 7 because it was empty. On the surface I can't understand why your Aux 4 does not do the same thing.

I was pushing the actual Aux button on my panel. Is that what you are doing, or are you using a Pentair remote or ScreenLogic???

When you are turning on Aux 4.. I assume the pump is not running at all, is that true?

Next time you try to use Aux 4, look at the little display on the main panel and tell me what it says.

On the surface I don't know what is wrong, but we should be able to figure it out. I doubt it, but it could be as simple as the Aux 4 button is bad. When you turn on Aux 4 do you hear the relay "click"?

If you tell me how you wish your system would work, I can come up with a schedule that you could start with and then modify to fit your needs.

Do you have a Spa?
Does the IntelliFlo run everything or do you have more pumps?
Does the IFCS have its own pump?
What turns on the Rock Waterfall?

If you can, show me pictures of the EasyTouch panel so I can see all the buttons and labels. Then another pic or two of the relays, wiring and circuit breakers. And finally a pic of the overall equipment pad. This will allow me to understand what I am working with.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok- Hope this answers your questions:

There is no spa, we took it out recently. The control panel showing the Spa Light label needs to be removed.
There is a seperate pump that runs the waterfall. That is on the panel 1 circuit. It works.

I am pushing the actual button on the panel labeled #4. Maybe that is not the AUx 4 button?

I do have the wireless remote but have not been using it yet.

I would like to use the schedule i sent you earlier, but would like to change the pump speed for the 9pm to 5am schedule to maybe 1750 instead of 2500. The 5 am to 9am schedule is when i want to run at 3250 so it can operate my popups. Pics attached.

Hope this helps. Thanks so much for your willingness to help figure this out! Let me know what else you might need.

Doug

Doug,

I suspect that your IntelliFlo is getting power from the load side of your Pump/Filter relay. It should have constant AC power.

As a quick test, go to the EasyTouch and use the Mode button to put it in the Service mode. If the pump is running it should stop. Wait about a minute and go look at the pump's display. It should show something like zero RPM.. If the display is blank then it all makes sense.

Please let me know what you find.

Thanks,

Jim R.

ok, pump was not running so I started it up by pressing the pump/filter button. Started at the Pool mode of 3250 rpm. Turned on Service mode, still kept running. When in Service mode it allowed me to control the pump and see the display right on the pump, which I normally cannot do. I was not aware of that function.

Doug,

I suspect that the original ET-4 card was replaced by an ET-8 card.

Service mode is just that.. If you had a Service company come out to your house to work on something, you really don't want them screwing with your schedules. So, they just put the system into the Service mode. This shuts off Everything and prevents anything from "automatically" happening. You can manually run the pump for the pump's control head and you can manually turn things on. I use the Service mode when I clean my filters or pump basket etc.

I assume you know this, but we are all volunteers here, so we have no set hours. I've had things I had to do today and have not been on TFP much, so have not had time to look at your last couple of post. I'll do that and try to get back to you after dinner today.

Thanks,

Jim R.

No worries about timing, I certainly realize you have a life and have other things to do! I'm just grateful you are willing to help, so take your time.
