Iron stains with AA treatment - what should I consider "done"?

I have some iron stains in my pool. I got a filter setup for fill water that should take out ferric iron. I don't think it'll affect ferrous iron, but regardless, I want to try it out. So I'm doing an AA treatment, then will refill with my "filtered water" and see how the season goes.

Anyways - the main question! How much of the stain can I reasonably expect to be removed? For example, my first application of 1 lb (into a 13600 gallon AGP), I basically accidentally dumped it all in 1 spot. When that splat drifted down to the bottom, that section of pool cleaned up very quickly, to almost a bleach white - NICE!

I circulated etc., but can still see staining in other parts of the pool. So I added a little more, and more, and more, until I got 2 lb in there. But that stuff I added more properly and didn't dump into 1 little spot. And it seems like there is still some minor staining. I'd say it's like 90% - 95% stain-free. But it still doesn't look quite as white as that one area that got really covered.

Check out these pictures:
So, where do I go from here? If I let it circulate all night, will I see different results? Am I being too picky and should just be happy with these results and dump the iron-water to refill with hopefully iron-free stuff and see how the season goes?

Thoughts? What would you do?

Thank you for your time! :)

As long as there isn’t a heater in the plumbing loop or you have a heater bypassed, then let it circulate for 24 hours. The area that you hit with a big load of AA likely dropped the pH very quickly and the stain quickly lifted. When the AA is diluted, it takes longer. Brushing helps too.

I’d give it 24 hours and then begin to rebalance.

Did you add some polyquat-60 algaecide to keep algae at bay? With zero FC, you don’t want to wait too long or else algae can start to grow.

OK I'll let it circulate overnight and make some moves around noon-ish tomorrow, when I started the adventure. I did brush it a lot, but it hasn't seemed to help yet.

I didn't bother with the algaecide as I'm planning on doing a water dump and refill ASAP.

Check your pH and TA. The AA should have lowered your pH but if the alkalinity was too high then it will increase back up to the mid-7's making the AA less effective. If the pH is higher than 7.4, I would lower it down again to 7.2/7.0 using muriatic acid.

I tested before the AA and it was a smidge over 7.2, maybe 7.3 or 7.4. Def. under 7.5 or whatever the next rung is on my tester.

I'll check the pH again, and lower if it's at that next 7.5 rung. Thank you!

Just to kind of wrap this up...after ~24 hours, the stains appear to be completely gone! I drained the "AA water with iron" very low, and did a long refill - can't wait to see my water bill! LOL. But the pool has never looked this good. Balanced everything out today...added a bunch of CYA, some chlorine, and balanced TA and pH with baking soda and Borax. We got some swim time in today too, a good amount. Water is cold, but everything looks to be coming along nicely!
