Please help with pump!

S,

I just don't see anything obvious..

Did you try to run the pump from just one input at a time, as TS asked? If not you could try that.

Did you move the Return valve so that all three pipes are open?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey Jim. Thanks for your patience. I attached another photo numbering the valves. These valves in the photo are all open. I don’t see a way to completely close one valve… since it’s 3 way. won’t turning the valve one way, just open the other side?

S,

Valve #1... Turn the "off" tab to point to the left. This will shut off the input on the left
Valve #2... Turn the "off" tab to point up.. This will shut off the top input and allow water to only come in from the bottom input.
Valve #3... Perfect, just leave it alone.

Test and see what happens

Then

Valve #2... Turn the "off" tab to point down.. This will shut off the bottom input and allow water to only come in from the top input.

Test and see what happens

Then

Turn valve #1 so the "off" tab points to the right. This will mean the only input to the pump will come from the pipe on the far left

Test and see what happens.

Reset all the valves like they are in your pic and let us know if anything worked.

If during your tests, you see/hear a bunch of bubbles belching out of the pool returns, just keep letting it run and see if the bubbles go away.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim, how long do I keep the pump on during these tests? Under a minute?

Lots of bubbles coming out from the return. Been over a minute

Okay so in all 3 instances- bubbles came up in the return. The step 1,2 bubbles stopped after about 45 seconds. Step 3 it kept going but I didn’t want to run the system without water for more then a minute.

S,

Sorry, I am confused... After the bubbles stopped did you get good water flowing out of the returns??

Jim R.
No water! Just bubbles. And then when it stopped, nothing went through. The skimmers are totally stagnant haha no movement at all. But I’m letting it run a minute as the bubbles are coming out

S,

Sorry to be a pain, but I should have told you to fill the pump with water and tighten down the lid before performing each test.

It appears to us that valve # 2 selects between your two skimmers.. If that is true, then when you are running these tests, then only one skimmer will work at all, then when you move the valve, the other skimmer will work and the first one will not. Then when you move valve #1, which I suspect that is your main drain, then neither skimmer will work.

The whole idea is to see of one of the three inputs is leaking air and the other two are not. That is why we are trying to test them one at a time.

Thanks,

Jim R.

So the third step worked. It blew all bubbles out. Then system worked. I turned valve and it stopped working

S,

Set the valves up again like test 3 and see if you can get the water flowing again. Then don't touch anything..

Go look at each skimmer and see if either of them are working. If not it means we guessed right about the valves. If one of the skimmers is working we will need to adjust our thinking.

Assuming that neither skimmer is working, then slowly turn valve #1 so that you let in a little water from valve #2 and see what happens.

Thanks,

Jim R.

So did you finally get it to keep water moving? Even though tis diagram below is a little different from your valve, it may help you understand the valve water flow.
