Hi everyone. Our above ground pool is a few years old. This is my second time opening it, but first time using the troublefreepool plan. I already feel like I’m in more control. I have my fancy test kit, and I feel like a chemist out there!

Anyway, pool level was low upon opening. I think my cover pump/siphon was draining more than I expected. Anyway, the 20” of water was clear upon opening, with quite a bit of algae sitting on the bottom. I filled it up with the hose and did the usual maintenance things (vacuuming, brushing). After getting the FC, PH, and CYA into the correct ballpark, things were cloudy. I’m sure I stirred up all of that gunk on the bottom.

Decided to SLAM. I’ve been testing 3 times a day and adding chlorine in amounts suggested by the app. I’m going on about 3 days of running the pump 24/7. I think I’m seeing progress. I can see the brush at the bottom now, but it’s very very hazy down there.

I guess my question is, about how long does the SLAM process take? I’m sure there’s no definite answer, but any rough guesses? Does outside temp have any affect on the process?

It’s still too cold out to swim, but I’d like to get it cleared up for when we’re ready.

Can you add your pool details to your signature?

Just throwing ideas out, what type of filter do you have?

Are you keeping your FC at 16 as often as is reasonable to do?

You are correct. There is no one accurate response for the length of a SLAM Process. But if your AGP has decent water circulation and you are maintaining the proper elevated FC SLAM level, I see no reason why within 5-7 days you shouldn't be close. Once you update your signature we'll know more. Post some pics if you like. If you have a ladder in the water, pull it out. Consistency with chlorine and brushing are key. Good luck1

Updated my signature. Not sure if shows on replies or only original posts. 17130 gallon, 27’ round vinyl pool with a one speed pump and sand filter (brand new sand).

Yes. :goodjob: Watch your pressure gauge and backwash when it increases by about 25%. If for some reason you ever elect to vacuum to waste,, watch your water level and consider re-testing the CYA again if you drop enough water. Otherwise, elevate and maintain!

Signature is great :) I would vacuum as often as is reasonable, but let your filter "get dirty" (i.e. allow the pressure to rise, but no more than 25% over clean pressure as Texas Splash said)

Also be sure to keep brushing the walls and floor, keeping the 'gunk' stirred up, you want it in suspension so the chlorine can do it's job and the filter can do it's!
