My neighbor invited me over on Monday and showed me her 3 year old pool. Her pump basket was a third full of lizards. the DE filter pressure is 30psi, and a 1 inch white line at the water level of the pool. She claims her pool guy cleans every Thursday, and told her the filter needs to be replaced. Would you fire the pool service guy?

Is she willing to learn how to manage her pool? What you say is normal to most people with a pool. Sadly.
Unfortunately she works 3 hours away from her house and usually stays close to her business during the week and comes home for weekends only. So I doubt that she has time for pool maintenance.
What is another pool guy going to do that this one isn't?
Even pools that are only serviced weekly are expected to be checked on by the owner occasionally. Skimmers need cleared several times a day some times of the year. It's just not something that can be ignored for days at a time all the time.

My thoughts are that the pump basket shouldn't have that much in it. Especially if the pool was serviced on Thursday 3 days ago. And 30psi seems really high for filter. The white line around the pool, I'm not able to control that on my own pool.

That all depends on what the neighborhood looks like. If there are trees it could be needing emptying a couple times a day in the spring and fall.
I would but am having physical problems right now torn shoulder muscles, along with the nerve injury, and arthritis. It's a lot for me to just keep up with my own pool.
