I installed a VGreen 165 last summer and now noticed that it's not turning itself on in freezing temperature. The power is on and the Start light is green. I don't have the VLink so haven't done any advanced settings or anything like that. Could it be a bad thermostat on the control board or something? The manual doesn't have any technical support contacts nor does the RegalRexnord website. Not sure what to do so I thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas. In the meantime I'm having to remember to set long overrides to keep it going.

The manual for the Vgreen 165 doesn't say anything about which step setting it uses when it activates freeze protection. It could be using any of the four preset steps, but I would guess that it's either step 1 or override. Even if you normally only use one speed step I would make sure that all the step settings are programmed with a speed. If you don't want to activate a step / speed in your normal program you can set its time to 0 hours, but make sure you have a speed selected.

This is just a guess, but if the freeze protection is activating and the speed for the step it grabs is 0, it may be working but the pump will not turn because your unused steps / override are set for 0 rpm.

I took a look at the Regal "Gen 3 EPC Modbus Communication Protocol" document that describes the RS-485 protocol and configuration variables for the Vgreen 165 motor and the freeze protection variables indicate that freeze protection is on by default, with a temperature setting of 39 degrees F, a duration of 2 hours, and the pump speed set to 2600 rpm.

So it looks like speeds programmed in the step settings aren't used for the freeze protection so please disregard my last post.
