South Carolina New Build

Welcome to TFP. For clarification - is this pool in South Carolina or Trophy Club TX - conflict info on your location and title. Not a major deal but interesting to see the price differences in various states.

Several quick points
  1. Suggest the pool depth be min. 3.5ft as you may find 3ft a bit shallow if it is a large section.
  2. Suggest you have 2 skimmers - have each independently plumbed back to the equipment pad for individual control.
  3. While 3 returns may be the minimum requirement, for your size pool, about 19-20,000 gals, it might be better to have 4 or 5 returns. You do not show a picture, so is this a free form pool or a rectangle pool?
  4. Nice that you have as saltwater chlorine generator (SWCG). Ensure it is the Pentair IC40 or IC60, it should be rated 2x the volume of pool i.e. 20x2=40.
  5. Also, it appears they are offering the EasyTouch automation system because they propose an additional fee for the screenlogic software which is recommended to provide easier programming. However, the better choice would be to request the Pentair IntelliCenter as this already includes the PC software. Also, ask that it the a package that includes the SWCG and 2 automatic actuators. The package should be less expensive then purchasing the IntelliCenter, SWCG and controllers separately.
  6. Ask that your filter be a large cartridge i.e. 400 sq. ft or larger for your pool.

I am sure others will chime in.

Welcome to TFP! How wonderful that you are getting a pool. +1 that 3’ feet depth for the shallow end isn’t deep enough. Take a tape measure and pull it out to 3 feet and see where that comes to you on your body. In addition, I didn’t see the depth listed for the tanning ledge. How deep do you want that? Price wise, do get other estimates. As of now you have nothing to compare this quote to. If you do get other quotes, hand draw what you want so that the pool is as close of a match as possible.

Thanks for the feedback. The build is in upstate SC we are in the process of relocating from Texas. I started the account a couple of years ago when we were looking at building in Texas.

The pool is rectangular. We’ll be sure to follow up on your other suggestions.

They are not very popular on here. There are a few of us on here that have them and like them. I do like mine, although I have said it before, I'm not sure I would install one in my next pool. I guess the only way I will ever know is if I build another pool and don't install it, and then wish I would have. The main reason I put one in was I didn't know anything about them and I couldn't add it later if the robot wouldn't work to my liking.

Mine does a fair job of keeping the pool clear of leaves and small debris. I get several small areas where dirt will collect. I ran my system for 1 year before I purchased a robot cleaner. The robot was primarily to assist with the brushing, because I am not diligent enough about that. It does help pickup some errant leaves and the small pockets of debris that don't seem to make it down the main drain.

You do have to run your pump at a much higher speed in order to get the in-floor to operate properly. My system was designed for 48GPM at the heads. Which puts me about 2800 RPM or so on my variable speed pump. I run the in-floor for about 5 hours a day. If I didn't have the in-floor, I would run at 1100 RPM most of the time, with an occasional run around 2500 for some better skimming action. So there is an increased electrical cost associated with it.

Let us know when you get a 2nd and hopefully a 3rd comparison bid. Some of your prices seem very high but again, maybe a sign of the times of high demand, lack of equipment, etc.
