Okay, please forgive me if this is a silly question, but I cannot find a clear answer online. We have had our in-ground, gunite pool for a little over 20 years. Last year, we hired a national pool construction company to resurface the gunite on our pool. Originally, the plaster surrounding the eyeball jets was flat and smooth, but now, each eyeball jet is set inside a concave indentation in the gunite. The plaster around each eyeball jet does feel solid to the touch (not mushy) and there don't appear to be any cracks, but I just want to be sure this is okay. I know, for a fact, that the original pool design had flat, smooth plaster surrounding these jets. Is this merely a design difference? If it seems weird that I'm only bringing this up now, it's because we have noticed another problem (possibly significant) with the construction and I have been looking at my pool more closely. If the old plaster was not removed, then the new plaster has to go on top of the old plaster and the fittings will end up like that.

Normally, they remove the plaster near the fittings and tile to allow for a smoother transition.

Was the tile replaced?

Was the old plaster removed?

Thank you for your response. That makes sense. The tile was replaced, but not the coping. However, I do not believe they removed the old plaster. Is that a problem?
