My filter, variable speed pump, salt water chlorine generator, etc, uses 2" plumbing. I bought a Raypak Crosswind 65-I and it uses 1 1/2" plumbing. Next season I will boost it's output with a roof solar water heating system (combined with a 24x7 solar cover). This is a 16,000-ish semi-buried above ground pool.

Should I be worried? The manual says the piping to the heat pump should be the same size of the rest of the unit, but I was going to use two three way valves to max sure I don't exceed the recommended GPM of the heater.

You will be fine reducing to 1.5" going in and out of your heater.

Install a Heater Bypass - Further Reading and use the connections to the bypass as the points to do the reduction.

That HP will add a large restriction to your water flow as will your future solar setup.
