Hayward Pump Shaft Seal

Today we attempted to connect our pump and as the water started to fill the lines we immediately noticed a drip from the pump motor. This is not a part we assembled, bran new pump never been turned on. Anyone else have this? Someone mentioned maybe a shaft seal when I asked in a fb pool group. The leak is coming from just to the left of that metal rod.

This pump/motor looks new, is it? Still under warranty? It does appear to be leaking at the shaft seal that would otherwise prevent water from going backwards from the basket to the motor itself which would be real trouble. As you can tell from the part diagram HERE, there are other O-rings/seals in the pump housing, but the shaft seal would be my first suspect area.

Oh yeah, it’s new. Never even been plugged in. We noticed it as the pool was filling. I just wasn’t sure if this was an issue big enough to send it in for repair. Even though I feel like it is, didn’t want to make a fuss over a super simple fix.

If it's coming from the shaft seal and never been turned on I'd let it run for a few days and see what happens.
There's a good chance once the seal wears in it'll be fine.
