Could someone please look at my logs? I’ve been tracking my chlorine throughout the past few days to see how much I need to add at night and not get below my target (5-7) during the day. I’ve been shooting high (10ppm) the past 2 nights so I don’t drop below 5 during the day, and I still did. Should I take my CYA up to 50? Could I have something in the water and I need to SLAM again? My pool gets full sun from 930am-730pm. My PH was high at 8+ and I brought it down yesterday and this morning to 7.7ish. Thank you!

It sounds like you are using way too much chlorine. I just did a test with mine to see how much I am using and I am just over 1ppm per day. I am also in full sun almost all day.

I would recommend doing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test this evening. If you pass the OCLT, then you can increase the CYA a bit more. If you fail the OCLT, then you know the SLAM Process is next.
Saturday overnight test loss was -.2
Sunday overnight test loss was -.6
I’ll do again tonight. Since it increased, I could have some algae starting. Check out my picture below, is that dead algae? I vacuumed to waste and about 2 days later it came back. It gathers on the bottom in the deep end corners and poofs up if disturbed.

The OCLT is a good idea, to be sure. Is your pool water clear and CC <= 0.5 as well?

I'm new here, so I'm no expert, but I just completed my own SLAM recently, and what I observed was a chlorine loss to the sun in my fully exposed pool of about 5% an hour (with CYA = 50). That equates to losing 50% of your chlorine in about 14 hours. The more chlorine you start with, the more you lose. If your daylight losses are tracking to that type of decay, but you're not failing an OCLT and you are otherwise passing the SLAM entrance criteria, you might be ok.

Experts, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... it's just what I've observed recently. I don't exactly have years of data on the topic.

Then I fall way below my target. Friday I floated pucks during the day and it didn’t drastically drop. I’d like to stop using the pucks so this is why I started this process.

Yes crystal clear. I can see the glitter in my gel coat. CC is .2 or 0. It goes between pending on when I test.
I’ve gone above my target so I don’t lose and fall below the target during the day. In previous weeks I would fall below target and get cloudy and end up slamming. If going above my target is the reason for the chlorine loss, I’m ok with that. I don’t want to fall below my target.

Since you just passed the OCLT, you have a green light to increase the CYA. Try adding just enough stabilizer to increase the CYA by 10 ppm. Should be about 28 ounces. Get that in there and monitor teh FC for a day or two and see if the FC holds better. Losing 8.8 of FC in one day is a lot though.

Got it. I will do that.
