Hey everyone, I’m in the middle of my pool build. The major plumbing pieces have been installed, and I’m trying to make sense of all the various valves. Please reference the attached photos.

Any help in identifying what the red valves do? What about the black one with the arrows?

Lastly what is the hose connection right above the pump used for?

thanks everyone, I appreciate it!

Ok so you have 1 suction line and 2 return lines. Without more information its hard to tell what exactly is going on between the 2 return lines. Most likely you have a water feature that is activated when the black handle is pointed to the right, therefore diverting water to the 2 red ball valves. When the valve handle is pointed to the left as it is in the picture the water is returning to the pool return lines.

H,

Keene could be 100% correct, but I'd think that the two red valves are for the water features.. Something small like a bubbler or small fountain.

You need to tell us more about what you have..

The main thing to know is that we never recommend using ball valves (the red ones)... This is because in two or three years you will not be able to move them.. And unlike the Jandy style valves (the black ones) ball valves can't be repaired or rebuilt, just replaced.

Good job on getting a salt system in Austin, where that is like pulling teeth... :thumleft:

Thanks,

Jim R.

That makes sense! Thank you so much. I have two deck jets, so that must be where the ball valves come from.

Yep that’s right, the two red valves are for deck jets. Too bad hearing that they will break down eventually, at least the jandy-style valve can act as a shutoff for both jets at once.

I didn’t know SWG systems in Austin are difficult to get! I contracted this pool literally last summer, so my builder has been on the hook for quite some time haha.

H,

Most pools builders put one there so that they can pressurize the system for leak testing as the pool is being built..

You can use it to drain some water from the pool if you want.. Other than that is is pretty useless.. In 7 years I have never used mine once..

Thanks,

Jim R.
