Top Step Stain

I had my pool recently resurfaced from plaster to pebble last October. I noticed that occasionally my chlorine floaters would like to float above this top step. Being a new pool owner I didn't think anything of it at the time but recently I've noticed that the top step is discolored. I have already tethered the chlorine floaters to the pool cleaner hose and that seems to keep them in the middle of the pool, but I'm wondering if anything can be done for the top step.

I contact the company that resurfaced the pool and they seemed to think that an acid wash might help. Does anyone have any experience with these types of stains/discoloration caused by chlorine tablets/floaters? Will an acid wash fix this issue or should I just have the stairs chipped out and redone?

I can't tell from the pics where the discoloration is? An acid wash takes years off your plaster finish. Can others see it or is it just you as home owner because you know they're there you see them more?

Are you using these pucks routinely? That's going to cause your pool to build up CYA and require draining and refills once the CYA gets too high. Have you tested that level lately?
