Getting close to decking time.

going to do a channel drain. it seems like Deck-O-Drain is the most popular, is there any reason why?

i just noticed the grill doesnt come off so makes cleaning difficult.

Are there any recommendations that might be better (maybe like a 2" or 3")?

or does the forum not recommended ones that the grills come off?

I have one where the grill doesn’t come off and it’s a mess. Parts of it are filled with mud, weeds, and ants. When I redo my deck, I’m cutting in a larger drain with removable grill.

Actually, I think you can cut the cap off of the Deck O Drain and they make a replacement cap that snaps back on (if you cut it off correctly). I looked into this for the ancient and broken drain that was installed between my deck and the house, but it ended up being beyond repair. I cut it all out and put pavers along the drain with gaps between them for water to drain through. Once a year, I pull the pavers back and water-jet out the muck that builds up.

I used Stegmeier Frontier channel drain. The grill does come off and comes in different colors. I ordered from this place in the link below...yes I needed a box of 10 for my project, but they sell single's or smaller quantities. I shopped around and they had the best price. I called and ask them about everything that I needed to make sure it was all in stock and then placed the order online. Great experience with them.

Thus far I really like it. The grill comes with a protective tape on it so the concrete finishers don't mar it up. It has poured buckets of rain multiple times and it runs in the drain and out the pipes at each end.

I don't have great pictures of it...here you can see it with the orange tape on it before the deck pour.

Here you can see it after the pour and the tape was removed. After the concrete dried completely you can hardly even notice them.

Those look just like mine, but they’re so old and brittle they feel like they’ll break off if I try to pull the grill off. Maybe I just need to try harder.
