Green Algae

I Everyone,
I have a bright green algae in a small area of my pool. I have tried to brush it and it disperses into multiple spots on the pool floor. I have been to my local pool store here in central Florida and they first recommended phosphate remover, didn't work. They then had me try "super green algaecide". No luck with that either. I'm losing confidence, not to mention money. I have attached a picture to help. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Thank you,

jasperjord

Welcome to TFP.

You need a proper test kit. The TF-100 Test Kits or the Taylor K-2006C. Consider getting the Mini-XL (best value) as you will be doing a lot of testing to clear your algae problem and the Smart Stir

Once you have your test kit then you need to follow the SLAM Process step by step with no shortcuts.

Download PoolMath and consider logging all your test results and sharing your logs so we can assist you.

Read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

What chemicals were in the "super green algaecide" you used?

Neither phosphates or algaecides clear an algae problem. It takes maintaining the proper level of chlorine for as long as it takes to eradicate the algae.

Welcome to TFP! Here are my recommendations:
- First & foremost .... stay out of the pool store. They are taking your money and their testing is inconsistent.
- Test your own water with a TF-100 (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C. Post a full set of those results.
- To remove algae, you need to follow the SLAM Process using one of those kits.
- Update your pool signature with all of your pool and equipment info. See mine as an example.

Depending on the size of your pool, you might just add 1/2 gallons of liquid chlorine each day for now until you get one of those kits. Tnen we can help you through the SLAM Process.

Thank you, I will do all those things. I do have a porpoise test kit which I'm assuming is different from what you're recommending. The pool is 11,800 and it usually test 5.0 or above with chlorine. Until I can manage to figure this out you recommend 1/2 gallon chlorine? I assume this is the same liquid chlorine than is in short supply right now? Thanks!

Ha. Yes & yes. :) Check all the common places like Walmart, Home Depot, etc. Even the pool store will have liquid chlorine (they call it pool shock) by the gallon. Theirs's cost slightly more, but it's usually fresh and strong. Just ignore anything else they have to say. :)
