Vinyl Tear - suggestions for repair

Just peeled back the winter cover and was greated with a tear in the corner.

Looking for any suggestions as to which repair kit to get, which youTube video shows how to do it best or anything else. We're not too concerned with how it looks, the longest lasting fix is what we're after.

Suggestions about what to think about as far as a replacement liner in the future are OK, but the reality is that a new liner is just not going to happen this season.

Hey Rob !!! Don’t kill the messenger here but the liner is torn at the bead and isn’t repairable with patches. Gorilla makes a water proof tape that should handle any splashing/waves pretty well. It won’t be necessarily pretty but you can probably limp along with it until the funding is better.

@Newdude hit the nail on the head. You can get Gorilla tape in different colors as well as clear. I know they make white, which might stick out less than standard black or silver.

OK Gorilla tape sounds like the short term fix

How should I prep the liner before the tape? Acetone, rubbing alcohol or just soap and water?

Should I try and get some tape inside the tear too, so the outside has something to stick onto?

Soap and water will work, you probably don't even need the soap. Mine always came squeaky clean with just a sponge.

If you can get tape inside and sandwich the tear, it would certainly be much better. It would help reinforce everything and possibly take some of the stress away from the tearing area.

Keep us posted.

Acetone is probably a bit much...I would give it a good scrub with soap an water and then gently wipe with rubbing alcohol right before you put the tape on.

I will echo what @Newdude said, If you could get some tape on the back side as well as the front...that would stand the best chance of holding/supporting the liner tear.

Cleaned with rubbing alcohol on front and back of liner. Used a ruler to help press Gorilla tape on the back of the bottom cut and top ridge of the liner. That's the first picture. Then I used Gorilla clear tape and started 7 or 8" from either side of the tear and went across. In the corner itself I need to have two folds on the bottom of the clear tape to make the radius.

It ain't perfect, but it's not bad and you'd have to be looking at it to notice. It should protect fine for the aquabot. Now just need to keep the kids from hammering the corner with toys, guns, kayaks, butcher knives and you know kids...

Thanks for the help.
