Hello everyone. I just started using my Taylor testing kit and still getting the hang of it. I took my water to Leslie’s as part of my contact agreement and see the findings. I told my pb and he suggested I add a gallon of chlorine and turn my chlorinator dial to 3.

For background info, the pump was started Monday evening. Pb added 3 gallons of acid, two bags of powder cya and filled the chlorinator with tabs and set it two.

Well, you being in god's country and all that..... you have a lot of sun to deal with. I'd ignore everything that Leslie's says and trust your own kit first and foremost.

Do you understand the pitfalls in using pucks instead of liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorinator? Your CYA will rise to freaky high unmanageable levels if you don't watch it carefully.

I have a swg but the pb still installed a chlorinator. He’s using that initially but after the plaster is cured, the swg will be turned on.
The setting on the chlorinator is at 3. I do have gallons of liquid chlorine on hand to avoid the cya climbing if that means anything. I do like the testing kit. I went to Leslie’s to compare the readings and wasn’t impressed on the way the water is tested. No rinsing, just added my water and printed a paper with results and $ugge$tion$ 🤪

Start practicing your CYA test if you’re using pucks. I don’t trust that Leslie’s report given you just started the pump and your test shows a good pH compared to what Leslies has. We trust your testing with a good testing kit over a pool store’s testing.

I have to add that the reading from the Taylor kit was taken 3 hours after I added a gallon of liquid chlorine. I’m assuming it brought the ph up.

I don’t trust Leslie’s
I just do it for my warranty seeing that it’s a new pool

Understood. My comment was more about the CYA measurement from Leslie’s. Definitely get practicing the CYA test and report what you get here.
Thanks for the insight, definitely appreciate it. I was amazed how big the reagent bottle was for cya but when I did it I realized why. It’s definitely a subjective test and it took me two times to ensure I saw the black dot disappear 🤓

thanks again

Just so you know, after mixing the CYA reagent with your pool water and mixing it well, you can perform the “dot” part of the test multiple times to practice. Just pour the mixture back into the bottle, give it a little shake, and do it again.

A major thank you. I didn’t know you could do that. I used more reagent with each test. Still practicing but thanks for that tidbit.
