I have a cover pools controller with a key and the thing is wearing out. The key is broken off and it is becoming very hard to turn. I have taken the key to 3 key places and no one can make a key. One did make one that works but it a bit rough so don’t use it unless emergency. I got a price for a new one of $498 which is insane in my opinion. What are the alternatives? I have young kids so would like something secure that a 4 year old could flip and open but doesn’t have to be a key.

I replaced my switch in 2012 with a Salzer Rotary switch I bought on ebay for about $40. I added a keyed cam to replace the lever. It's the same kind of switch used for boat lifts. The model I have is P220-21404-A02. It's been working fine for 9 years now.

What kind of box do you mount that in? I assume a single gang but is it deep? Can’t find great pictures on it.

Here is a couple photos. It's the box that was installed with the pool. Originally I had a wireless control but was too finicky.

Were you taking them to hardware stores that have a key making machine or to an actual locksmith shop? I only had one key and wanted to have spares made in case I lost it (I also bought a Tile key fob for the key ring to help ensure I don't lose it) but after taking it to a couple hardware stores like Home Depot and Ace hardware (neither of them could) I went to an actual locksmith shop and he was able to quickly make me a couple spares for $10.
