Hi All,

I finally received an excavation date from PB, which is two weeks from now. I also received the depth chart with slope (see attached). My proposed pool is Vinyl inground Lagoon style, 19'x35'. Almost 50% of Pool will be around 3ft (chart shows wall depth) and the remainder between 3ft and 6ft. PB says this is standard for non-diving vinyl pools. We're okay with the around 6ft max depth, but I'm not sure having such a large area at just 3ft of depth??? May ask to bring it up to 3.5ft, not sure about the cost differential. Anyone have an opinion?

I would definitely go to 42" water depth in the shallow end. I really wish I could have done that on my pool but it was not a possibility. 36" is really shallow for adults.

I also would go full deep in the deep end but that's just my opinion. I had my entire pool re-done because when I inherited it it was only 6ft. I can't imagine living with a pool where I can stand in the "deep end". One major renovation project later, it's now 8'6".

Thanks for the response. I'm going to discuss with PB today if I can go to 42" on shallow end, and also how much deeper on the deep end. Since my pool will be 35' long, I need to be careful about slope. We want a large shallow area so this may prevent us from going to 8ft or greater.

6'is the most popular now. I think you should add more slope area amd take away from the shallow end. With a wide pool 10' of shallow is plenty amd a large area. Adults do not hang in 3' water, they tend to use the slope, and the more gradual the slope the easier it is to stand. The slope you have now is gonna be hard to hold footing wise

Thanks Jimmy. I discussed with PB today and he suggested to reduce shallow end by 2' to around 14.5' (little less if you include sundeck) and increase slope by 2' to 10'. Are you suggesting to reduce shallow end even further to 10' and increase slope to 14'?

Here's the adjusted print.

My experience with my own pool and many I've installed. The adults in shallow end are with kids. Solo adults float or hang covered by water or in shallow end if theres a congregation point ie waterfall, bar, stairs etc. With a kidney you have alot of room in shallow end. The problem is that particular shape gets wierd bringing the slope past the choke point of the kidney as you would have slope in the dead corners leading to nothing. How the PB has it is about max you can do. 10ft isnt bad for that slope. Be aware that usually isnt enough to swim laps your hands will hit on crawl stroke if thats inportant to you. And be aware 6' depth is to coping so water will be about 5'9" when pool is full. You are showing wall depth not water depth.

Thanks for the advice. I see what you're saying about the 10ft slope being the max. PBs original proposal had an 8ft slope, which starts at the narrowest point of the shape, but after discussing him, he changed to 10ft. PB also said anything greater wouldn't work. I didn't understand at the time why, but now I do based on your explanation. Thanks again!
