TX pool owner here. Fixed a bunch of broken pipes due to the storm, started the pump, but the PVC popped out of the return port. I also found a crack in Hayward multi-port valve return port. I didn't glue the PVC to the return port because it was not glued before the storm. So I guess there are two reasons for the leak
1. Not gluing the PVC to the return port
2. The return port crack

What is your opinion? Is it necessary to replace the whole valve? Thanks! See below for the picture

The return pipe should be glued.

I can not see the crack well in the pic.

I would glue the pipe into the port with a liberal amount of glue and maybe the pipe and the glue will close the crack. I don’t think you have anything to lose by giving it a try. If it doesn't work then you are left replacing the MPV.

If the repair Allen suggested doesn't work, you have a second chance at fixing it. The port should also accept a 2.5" coupler on the outside. You would have to cut the 2" pipe flush at the valve port and slip a coupler over the outside, then use a reducer bushing to bring you back down to 2". Depending on the where the crack is, you may be able to contour the coupler to provide more reach over the crack.

Just my 2 cents. Hopefully it works.
