Marble pavers......brush sand on top to fill gaps...or not?

Our installers are just finishing up a large job of laying marble pavers in a french pattern. I am reading that some people do NOT have sand brushed in between....and others do. The installers are wanting to use playground sand to sweep in the cracks. Before I have them do this...just wanted to research this further.

Appreciate any input!!
 
My uncle has sand between his pavers and he regrets it. He is VERY meticulous about his pool though and he's retired so his daily routine is picking out SPECKS of sand from his pool.
