Hi All,
My pool is in horrible shape and I need to physically remove as much algae as possible before it reaches the DE filter....If not, I’ll have to clean the DE filter 8-12 times to get the pool back into shape. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Jason, so very sorry to tell you that a DE filter is a drag if you've got algae. I'm truthfully not sure if a vacuum bag will collect any algae? Do you have any solid debris like leaves that need to be removed? If you get the solids out its easier to get the pool cleaned up.
Do you know about how to perform a SLAM process??

And since this is a new pool here are some other things you should know about-

Saw this while posting about my own algae bloom. I use filters from Duda Diesel quite successfully to pre-filter before Crud hits my cartridge filter, even algae. They have various sizes, materials, micron specs and ship quickly (also on Amazon). My filter system is somewhat different from most but you could probably macgyver something together.

Sorry to say that your DE filter is going to need cleaned a lot. On the flip side... you'll clear your pool in record time verses using a sand filter. Better go buy 100lbs of DE and get to babysitting that filter.

P.S. I love my DE filter!!! I wouldn't own anything less and I've cleared 2 swamps using a DE filter. I got it to pass an OCLT in less than a week... like 3-4 days.
